Statement by Toronto Community Housing: 100 Cavell Avenue Fire

TORONTO, November 30, 2020—Toronto Community Housing has issued this statement concerning the fire today at 100 Cavell Avenue in Etobicoke.

We are saddened by the tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and the tenants and staff of the building at this difficult time. TCHC staff are at 100 Cavell Ave. today to support tenants and assist with the response to the fire.

We thank Toronto Fire Services for their quick action in putting out the fire, which was contained to a single unit on the 7th floor.

Three tenants have been evacuated from their units. TCHC will ensure they are safely accommodated until they are able to return to their units. This will include air quality checks and repairs to address any smoke or water damage.

The building's fire alarm and other life safety systems were fully operational at the time of the fire. We have no information about the cause of the fire.

We will continue to cooperate in full with the investigation being led by Toronto Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal.
