Statement from TCHC: Fire at 1420 Victoria Park Avenue

TORONTO, May 28, 2022—Toronto Community Housing has issued this statement concerning the fire this morning at 1420 Victoria Park Avenue in North York.

We are saddened by the loss of life as a result of the fire. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones and neighbours of the deceased, and the 1420 Victoria Park community at this difficult time.

We thank the Toronto Fire, Toronto Paramedic and Toronto Police first responders for their actions in putting out the fire. At this time, we have no information about the identity of the victim or the cause of the fire.

The fire was contained to a single unit on the 8th floor. No tenants of have been displaced by the fire.

We are cooperating with the investigation being led by Toronto Fire Services and Ontario Fire Marshal. All fire alarm systems in the building were functioning properly at the time of the fire.

Our Community Safety Unit staff and Operations staff are onsite to support tenants and to assist with the response.
