In the 2021 Tenant Survey, we heard from tenants that they want to see more digital communications from TCHC. Over the past few years, we have been introducing text messages (also known as SMS) and email as additional ways for TCHC to deliver information to tenants.

You may have already received emails and texts from us about community news and events. If you haven’t and would like to, please fill out the form below.

    Opt out of emails

Locate and click on the link at the bottom of an email from TCHC to update your email preferences or to opt out of emails completely.

    Opt out of texts

To opt out of receiving text messages from TCHC, tenants can reply 'STOP' to any text they receive or text "STOP" to 1-844-948-3133. It may take a few days for the system to refresh and for tenants to stop receiving further messages.

If I opt out of receiving text messages, am I going to miss any important updates?

No. Text messages are only one way we communicate with tenants. They support tenant communications that already exist, such as email, building posters, mailers, phone calls, and in-person interactions with staff.

    Frequently asked questions

What will TCHC text me about?

TCHC will use text messages to communicate information that fulfills our responsibilities as a landlord under the Residential Tenancies Act. This can include building updates and information about your rent or tenancy.

If you have registered for programs or events at TCHC, we may also text or email you relevant updates and information.

What will TCHC email me about?

TCHC will use email to communicate information that fulfills our responsibilities as a landlord under the Residential Tenancies Act. This can include building updates and information about your rent or tenancy.

You may receive emails directly from regional staff or from the Client Care Centre (help@torontohousing.ca).

When you sign up for email updates, you will also start to receive Community Corner, our monthly tenant e-newsletter. We may also send emails about important updates, upcoming events, programs, and opportunities. You can update your preferences about which type of communications you receive by following the “update my preferences” link at the bottom of all our emails.

How do I know a message is really from TCHC and not a scammer?

Text messages from TCHC will be sent from 1-844-948-3133. TCHC will text you about information that is relevant for tenants. If there is a link included, we will always direct you to torontohousing.ca. Be on the lookout for lookalikes that may be used by fraudsters.

Any emails you receive from TCHC should always come from an email address that ends with “@torontohousing.ca”. Most emails will come from no.reply@torontohousing.ca, the Client Care Centre (help@torontohousing.ca) or directly from regional staff. Always check that the email address is one that you recognize and lookout for any lookalike domains such as toronto.housing.ca or torontohousings.com.

Scammers will often try to pressure you into action by threatening a serious consequence if you do not act right away. Some common scams include pressuring you to make a payment or to text back personal information. If you think a message is suspicious, do not reply or give the sender any information. We will never ask you to provide personal information by text message.

If you receive strange-looking communications or are contacted by a person who claims to be an employee that you haven’t met before, take steps to verify the communication with someone you do know or email DigitalComms@torontohousing.ca to have your query escalated to our IT team. You can also contact the Client Care Centre at 416-981-5500 and they can connect you to the right TCHC staff member to support you.

If you or someone you know have been the victim of a scam, contact the police and report the incident. There is also a list of common scams affecting Canadians on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website

How often are tenants going to receive messages from TCHC?

The number of messages we send will depend on the number of updates that are relevant to your tenancy or the programs and events you signed up for. We will try our best to text or email you once or twice a week at most.

How do I sign up to receive text message updates from TCHC?

If the contact information we have for you is up to date, you will receive text messages when we have information to share with you. You can sign up using the form above or update your contact information at any time by contacting the Client Care Centre at 416-981-5500

Can I text in service requests or questions?

At this, our text messaging platform permits only one-way communication from TCHC to tenants. We cannot help you with questions or inquiries over text. If you have a question or need help, please contact the Client Care Centre at 416-981-5500.
