Toronto Community Housing accepting applications for Regent Park’s new affordable rental housing units at 150 River St.
(TORONTO) October 15, 2019—Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) and the City of Toronto are pleased to announce that 33 affordable rental housing units in Regent Park will be ready for occupancy at 150 River St. in the fall of 2019.
TCHC is creating an affordable rental unit applicant list for the 33 units, which include eight two-bedroom units and 25 three-bedroom units. The applications will be accepted by TCHC starting today, October 15, until the application deadline at 5 p.m. on November 15, 2019.
Affordable rental units differ from rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units and, as a result, there is a separate application process. Rents for affordable rental units are set at or below the average market rent as determined by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). To be eligible, a household's annual gross income cannot exceed four times the annual rent of the unit.
TCHC's system to allocate the affordable rental units, which will be monitored by the City of Toronto, gives every eligible household on the applicant list an equal chance to rent a unit.
"We are pleased to offer 33 affordable rental units at 150 River Street in Regent Park as part of our commitment to increasing affordability in the City of Toronto. Toronto Community Housing continues to help build a vibrant city through our revitalization projects, such as Regent Park, which is becoming an inclusive, mixed income neighbourhood blending affordable housing, market condos and rent-geared-to-income households."
