Statement from the TCHC President and Chief Executive Officer

TORONTO, January 16, 2023 —The Toronto Community Housing President and Chief Executive Officer has released the following statement:

"Effective January 16, the role of Interim Commissioner of Housing Equity will transition from Summer Nudel to Melanie Martin.

"Summer has made an invaluable contribution to OCHE, providing much-needed stability, leadership and guidance during a time of transition. I am extremely grateful to Summer for her willingness to step into that role and for the good work that she has done to-date.

"Melanie has been a part of OCHE since its inception, serving as Senior Advisor since 2017. She played a formative role in the creation of the very first community housing equity commission in all of North America, a previously unheard of office that offers substantial protection and assistance to tenants, helping thousands to avoid eviction since its creation. Melanie has an extensive background in social housing and a deep understanding of the legislative and policy frameworks for social housing.  Tenants will benefit greatly from having Melanie's housing experience and wealth of historical knowledge in the role of Interim Commissioner of Housing Equity.

"We look forward to working with Melanie as she guides the OCHE team in delivering its mandate of preventing evictions and supporting positive outcomes for all tenants."
