Statement from Chair of the Board regarding Cynthia Summers

TORONTO, July 26, 2022 - The Chair of the Toronto Community Housing Board of Directors has released the following statement:

"Today, we announced that the Commissioner of Housing Equity, Cynthia Summers, is leaving the Office of the Commissioner of Housing Equity (OCHE) on August 21, 2022, to take on a new role as Chief Executive Officer of Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.

As the inaugural Commissioner of the Office, Cynthia and her team took an idea and turned it into a reality, building a strong foundation of fairness and advocacy at OCHE, which will carry on long into the future.

Cynthia's leadership is responsible for the constructive and collaborative working relationship that OCHE enjoys with Toronto Community Housing and Toronto Seniors Housing today. This working relationship has led to positive, systemic change for the benefit of tenants and communities across Toronto.

In coming weeks, OCHE, working with TCHC and the City will be sharing more information on the plan for a smooth transition of the Commissioner's role in order to ensure that TCHC tenants continue to benefit from the support and protection that OCHE is known for."
