Smart ways to use water this summer
Come together to keep your building running smoothly.
Summer is finally here. While we all love a cold drink, a refreshing shower, or keeping our plants happy during the warm weather, summer also means our buildings’ water use hits its peak. When everyone uses a lot of water at once, it puts extra pressure on our plumbing systems.
By making a few simple adjustments at home, you can help keep building systems running smoothly, save water, and make sure everyone has the comfort they need all season long.
Why it matters to you
- Keep your home comfortable: Consistent water pressure and reliable hot water are important for everyone. Reducing water waste helps make sure these systems stay strong.
- Keep things working: When we use water wisely, we put less strain on our plumbing. This helps prevent leaks and clogs in your home.
- Take pride in your community: It’s a simple way to look out for your neighbours and keep our building in great shape.
Everyday tips
You don't have to change your lifestyle to make an impact. Try these quick, everyday hacks to save water:
- Shrink your shower time: Shave just two minutes off your shower to save up to 30 litres of water.
- The "Toothbrush Rule": Turn the tap off while brushing your teeth, washing hands, or scrubbing dishes. Only run the water when you are actually rinsing.
- Don’t ignore the drip: That annoying "drip-drip" from a faucet or a running toilet wastes hundreds of litres every month. It’s not your job to fix it—just tell your superintendent or call the Client Care Centre at 416-981-5500 so our maintenance staff can handle it quickly.
- Wait for a full load: Only run your laundry when the machine is full. It saves water and saves you time!
- Reuse and refresh: Save the water you use to rinse fruits or veggies and use it to water your house plants.
- Choose cold: Most laundry detergents work great in cold water, which is gentler on your clothes and keeps your laundry day efficient.
