On Thursday, August 25, residents of Leslie Nymark gathered outside at 30 Okra Tomar Crescent for Nymark Summer Jam, a much-anticipated annual tradition celebrating the summer season and community revitalization.

Hosted by TCHC in partnership with Tridel and Phade Creative, the event was set against the backdrop of a recently unveiled mural that depicts the heritage and character of Leslie Nymark. This community masterpiece is a labour of love demonstrating strength of community and belonging, and created in collaboration with local residents and local graffiti artist Jessey "Phade" Pacho, who also attended the community festivities.

Nymark Summer Jam comes on the heels of the mural installation and related series of Art Workshops – dance, graffiti, spoken word/MCing, offered to Leslie Nymark residents. It also comes at a time when TCHC and its developer partner Tridel released additional spaces for cultural and social activity as part of its continuing revitalization project, including a new playground and a commercial kitchen, an innovative community amenity and a first for a TCHC property.

The sounds of a local DJ and children playing, the smells of delicious food made right out of the community's very own commercial kitchen, the fun of hands-on art activities, and the excitement of a live performances for residents by their neighbours, defined this event and amplified the positive vibes in this vibrant neighbourhood:

"This is a great event for the community to get together. I like the idea of handing out books to children especially, and am happy to see new faces."

As the sun set on Nymark Summer Jam, TCHC distributed backpacks with books and school supplies to residents to help them get ready for the school season ahead. This family fun-filled day was successful because of the community spirit of all who came out to enjoy a summer evening together.
