Media statement: fire at 184 River St.

TORONTO, April 21, 2018—Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) has issued this statement concerning the fire at 184 River St. in Regent Park.

We are saddened by the loss of life as a result of the fire. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased, the tenants and staff of the building, and the Regent Park community at this difficult time. Staff are in the community today to support tenants and assist with the response to the fire.

We thank Toronto Fire Services for their quick action in putting out the fire, and Toronto Paramedic Services for their efforts in transporting the victim to the hospital.

The fire was contained to a single unit on the third floor. We have no information about the cause of the fire. We are fully cooperating with the investigation being led by Toronto Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal. The building's fire alarm system was functioning properly at the time of the fire.
