Outdoor burning

Outdoor burning

During a hot and dry summer, outdoor fires can start and spread easily. Here are some safety tips when using flammable materials outdoors.

Butt out where you're supposed to

Always use an ashtray to dispose of cigarettes. Do not throw them on the grass, into bushes or off your balcony.

Mind where you grill

Toronto Community Housing only permits barbecues in outdoor common areas at select buildings. Keep barbecues at least 15 feet from materials that can burn. Barbecues are never permitted on balconies.

Celebrate in appropriate areas

Fireworks and campfires are not permitted on Toronto Community Housing properties. To request a permit to use fireworks elsewhere, call Toronto Fire Services at (416) 338-8783. To request a permit for a designated fire pit in Toronto, call (416) 396-7378.
