Toronto Community Housing invests in strategies that engage youth in positive activities that lead to personal growth and community development in the areas of safety, leadership engagement, recreation, and economic development.
The Strengthening Communities Youth Leadership Project was created in 2013 to advance the capacity of youth living in Toronto Community Housing. Youth develop eight-to-ten-week projects focused on making a positive impact in their communities. Individual projects are eligible for up to $5,000 in funding.
The Strengthening Communities Youth Leadership Project encourages youth to create meaningful change in their communities by focusing on building community leaders and local governance structures such as resident/youth associations. As decision makers, planners and implementers of projects, youth will also receive skill development and training on a number of topics, including life skills, governance, and gender-focused programming.
