About 60 candidates were interviewed on-the-spot at the UPS job fair in late October to compete for seasonal jobs delivering packages in Toronto Community Housing neighbourhoods.
"I saw the flyer in my building and I thought it was a great opportunity," said Tanya, a 31-year-old candidate from Scarborough who attended the job fair.
Toronto Community Housing has partnered with UPS over the last five years to coordinate an annual job fair. These temporary, entry-level positions provide work experience and possible permanent employment opportunities with UPS.
"I think it's a great opportunity to get more experience," said Devante, a 21-year-old from the Leslie-Nymark community. "I want to get a part-time job and make more money on the side."
Last year, of the 12 residents hired as seasonal employees, two are still employed as a driver helper and package handler.

Candidates were encouraged to get help with their resumes before the job fair from employment agencies across the city, including�The Career Foundation,�Beaches Employment and Social Services, and�WoodGreen Community Services.�
"We have had a very strong relationship with Toronto Community Housing for several years," said Alberto Yllescas, a Human Resources Supervisor with UPS. "It's always been very successful. We are hoping to find some great people to hire."
UPS has hired 14 Toronto Community Housing residents who were interviewed at the job fair and more residents will be contacted from the UPS job fair talent pool as UPS assesses its hiring needs for this season.
