Toronto Community Housing children play Mas at Kiddie's Carnival!

July 25, 2006

Toronto's Kiddie's Carnival took place on a soggy Saturday, July 22, 2006 in the Jane and Finch community.

This year's parade was made cheerful with Toronto Community Housing's junior masqueraders on the parade march. The rain couldn't stop the bacchanal, and approximately 70 children from TCHC communities joined the colourful Mas while singing and dancing to the DJ's soca selections.

This year's jump-up party was represented by children and youth from Etobicoke, York, Markham-Eglinton, North York, Downsview and Davenport Midtown. An after-party was held at the Firgrove Youth Centre where the children were treated to music, games, and lunch.

The parade was a chance for the children from many of Toronto Community Housing's multi-ethnic communities to connect with Caribbean culture through dance, song, and costume. This was the sixth year of the Jane/Finch event; this was the second time that Toronto Community Housing has been involved.
