On Wednesday, July 26th, 2006, came the return of the highly anticipated 3rd annual Track and Field Scholarships Meet event! The product of an ongoing partnership between The University of Toronto Track Club and Toronto Community Housing, the track meet allows youth from all over the city to earn up to eight scholarships to join the track club during the school year.
The event being in its 3rd year was once again held at Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke and showcased Toronto Community Housings star athletes as they competed in various Olympiad-styled events. Toronto Community Housing COO, Keiko Nakamura was on hand to bestow prized medals and congratulations during the closing ceremonies.
Participants cheered on their home teams as they competed in events such as the 50, 100, and 200-metre dash, the 400-metre relay, high jump, long jump, and shot put. Toronto Community Housing staff and the Track Clubs coaches Carl Georgevski and Jill Mallon scouted potential scholarship candidates and will announce the eight winners in September.
