Toronto Blue Jays fund refurbishment of Smythe Park baseball diamond

June 05, 2013

After receiving a $175,000 grant from the Jays Care Foundation, the City of Toronto and York Baseball Association will be joined by Toronto Blue Jays alumni Duane Ward and Sportsnets Buck Martinez to unveil the newly refurbished main diamond at Smythe Park.

The refurbishment, which will benefit more than 350 York Baseball Association participants this season, will be followed up with a field cleanup by the Jays Care Community Crew. This is the first of many cleanups that the Community Crew will complete during the 2013 season.

Smythe Park is one of the primary locations for the Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League, which Toronto Community Housing participates in.

To celebrate the refurbishment, the Jays Care Foundation is hosting a community barbeque and a Blue Jays Baseball Academy Instructional Clinic for 75 youth including 15 Rookie League participants at no charge.

The event takes place on Thursday, June 6 and begins at 5 PM.
