Every year Toronto Community Housing organizes a mega job fair to connect its tenants and members of the public to employment opportunities in different industries. This year’s job fair was held on August 21 at the Central YMCA in downtown Toronto. About 300 job seekers attended the all-day event.
Twenty-seven public and private organizations participated in the job fair including the Canadian Armed Forces, Starbucks, Roots Canada, Brooks Restoration, The Source, Building Up, Hammer Heads and the Youth Employment Services (YES).
One hundred and fourteen on-the spot interviews were conducted by the participating employers. Twenty-nine job applicants including three YouthWorx members were hired.
The Human Resources division of Toronto Community Housing also hosted an information booth where they provided useful tips to jobs seekers about different career opportunities within the corporation. They also explained to the attendees how employees work contribute to healthy, livable communities for tenants.
The 2019 job fair was organized and facilitated by a team of interns who worked at Toronto Community Housing over the summer to gain practical workplace experience. A special thank you to all the partners for making the job fair a success.
