TCHC Rookie League 31st season begins

July 04, 2019

TORONTO, July 4, 2019—Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC), in partnership with Jays Care Foundation, is once again rolling out a summer of fun and sports through its Rookie League baseball day-camp program for more than 1,000 Toronto children and youth aged 6 to12.

The kick-off event for the 31st season of the Rookie League took place at Dovercourt Park today. Rookie League is a summer baseball day-camp helping to build strong communities by teaching kids the value of teamwork, leadership and fair play.  The Rookie League program, delivered in partnership with Jays Care Foundation, offers free summer camps in July and August.

"Rookie League is an amazing program focused on baseball, teamwork, and fun. We're always pleased to partner with Jays Care Foundation and our other partners each summer and the kids love it," said Kevin Marshman, Toronto Community Housing's President and Chief Executive Officer.

"We're thrilled to launch this new season of Rookie League in partnership with Toronto Community Housing," said Robert Witchel, Executive Director, Jays Care Foundation. "The program has a great history and has positively impacted thousands of children, youth, and families over the decades that we have been in partnership. We're excited to continue working together to bring this free day camp to even more kids across Toronto."

TCHC hired and trained 100 young people to be coaches and mentors to the Rookie League kids this summer. For many this represents an exciting first summer job that provides a chance to learn leadership skills, have fun outdoors, and earn an income.
