TORONTO, October 24, 2012 Toronto Community Housing President and CEO Gene Jones and Board Chair Bud Purves have issued this statement following the homicide of Nighisti Semret.
This disturbing act of violence has touched everyone at Toronto Community Housing. On behalf of all employees and the board of directors, we want to extend our condolences to Ms. Semret's friends and loved ones for their loss, and to offer our support to all residents of our building on Winchester Street during this difficult time.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, and we commend the actions of the neighbourhood residents who stepped in to help Ms. Semret.
