Kevin Marshman (Chair, Toronto Community Housing Board of Directors) and Ian Epstein (Breakfast host and Partner at Blaney McMurtry LLP) listen to past scholarship recipient, Rehona Zamani, shares her postsecondary school experience with guests.

The annual breakfast in celebration of the Investing in Our Diversity Scholarships was a huge success. More than 60 guests attended the event hosted by Ian Epstein of Blaney McMurtry LLP on May 2. The breakfast was a great opportunity for donors to meet some young people who received scholarships in the past few years and to hear about their postsecondary school experience.

Alumni Priya Saha and Rehona Zamani thanked donors for their support and for mentoring some recipients for career opportunities. Priya and Rehona also spoke about how the scholarship relieved them of financial stress and allowed them to continue their volunteer work. Priya is a member of the planning committee for the If I Ruled TO Youth Conference and a second-year Communication Studies student at York University. Rehona is a third-year student at the University of Toronto majoring in Global Health and Nutritional Sciences.

Guests at the scholarship breakfast listen to remarks by Kevin Marshman, Chair, Toronto Community Housing Board of Directors.

“Toronto Community Housing is committed to working with community and private sector donors to assist more students with strong community-building experience and good marks to achieve their dreams,” Kevin Marshman, Toronto Community Housing board chair, said at the breakfast.

Toronto Community Housing with the generous support of donors awards scholarships to young people who need financial assistance to pursue postsecondary education. This year, 58 youth from diverse Toronto neighbourhoods will receive financial assistance, from $1,000 to $4,000, to help with their school tuition and expenses. The recipients will be celebrated at an award ceremony on June 20.

Past scholarship recipient, Priya Saha (R), and Catherine Meaney, Director, Strategic Marketing & Business Development at Blaney McMurtry LLP.
