Toronto Community Housing hosted its first community meeting about the revitalization of Lawrence Heights and surrounding neighbourhoods. More than 300 people turned out for a lively evening of entertainment, information sharing and great food.
The City of Toronto, TDSB and other partners in the revitalization planning process also attended the event.
The evening began with a community fair consisting of nine local groups, a wide array of Kosher and Halal snacks, and live drummers who played against a backdrop of images of people and places in the area. Following the fair, the meeting began with short presentations by local councillor Howard Moscoe (Ward 15, Eglinton-Lawrence); Giorgio Mammoliti, Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee; Sue Corke, Deputy City Manager; Ted Tyndorf, Chief City Planner and Derek Ballantyne, CEO Toronto Community Housing.
After the presentations, participants were invited to participate in roundtable discussions on two questions:
- What are the opportunities and concerns you see in the community?
- How would you like to be kept informed on the planning process?
Each table was given the opportunity to share their suggestions. All attendees were encouraged to sign-up for inclusion on a Lawrence Heights mailing list to receive an overview of the meeting and updates on the planning process.
