The Pro Tech Media Centre opened its doors on July 3rd, 2007. The new media arts space will provide Jamestowns young people with an innovative centre to learn how to create digital art and animation.
The media centres creation is a result of a mosaic of partners from many sectors in Toronto.
With the insight into the needs of the community, Toronto Community Housing helped guide the planning process of the Pro Tech Media Centre. Toronto Community Housing was also instrumental in making sure that community members were consulted and provided direction as to what they wanted to see in their new technology hub. Youth from the community even chose the name and will be leaned on to provide guidance when a youth advisory council is created for the centre.
Microsoft Canada stepped up to the plate in full support of the project, dedicating money, equipment, software, and tech support to the space. The other important partners included the City of Toronto, the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Humber College, and the Humber College Students Federation.
The Rexdale Pro Tech Media Centre will introduce youth aged 14 to 25 to the world of digital art through introductory courses in web page design and digital media including digital photography, digital audio, and digital video.
Registration for all programs will be free of charge and students can enroll in as many programs as they like.
The Rexdale Pro Tech Media Centre is located at 1620 Albion Road
