Lynda, a Toronto Community Housing resident, enjoys an exercise class in her community.
"If I see something that needs to be done, I do it," says Lynda. For the Toronto Community Housing resident, getting involved has always come naturally. Over the years, Lynda has been the driving force behind a wide range of programs that have helped bring together the residents of her east-end building and the broader community. Whether it's organizing a cooking and lunch program or health and wellness classes, she has always been counted on to make it happen.
With the help of the Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships, Lynda started up the Seniors in Cyberspace program in her building, which pairs high school youth volunteers from the community with seniors who want to learn to use computers.
Running these programs is not without its challenges, and some days, the demands on her time and energy can be exhausting. But that won't stop Lynda from continuing to look out for the well-being of her fellow residents. For Lynda, it's all about bringing happy smiles to the people around her.
