Youth Elections Voting FAQ

Youth Elections

Am I eligible to vote?

If you are a Toronto Community Housing tenant, between 14 to 28 years old, you are eligible to vote for candidates in your community.

How do I register to vote?

You do not need to register to vote.  Voters lists will be at the polling stations with all eligible tenants listed.  When you get to the polling station, you will present identification and your name will be crossed off the voters list.  You must be a Toronto Community Housing tenant in the community where you are voting.

Do I need identification?

Yes. You will need to prove who you are and where you live.
Choose any two accepted forms of indentification:

  • a driver’s licence
  • any mail with your name and address on it
  • School/program registration
  • Report card/transcript

When are local elections held?

This year, Election Day is Thursday, April 8, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Polling stations will be located in Toronto Community Housing buildings.

Can I vote before general voting day?

An advance poll will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  There will be one advance poll in every operating unit.

What if I need assistance to vote?

All polling stations will be as accessible as possible to people with disabilities or impaired mobility.

If you find it difficult to get to a voting station, you may request for an election official to bring you a ballot.  This is called assisted voting. Please register for assisted voting by phoning or e-mailing the youth elections hotline listed below.
