REMIX
City-wide

$50,000 over two years to help young artists and young entrepreneurs become established in the music industry. REMIX runs a six-month course that accepts 10 young people in each of its programming streams (Media arts, Creative arts and Business). The project also enables youth to earn credits towards their high school diploma, secure internships or receive a micro-credit loan to start their own business venture.

The expected results are:
• 60 youth per year enrolled in the REMIX project

• Daily hands-on training, monthly workshops and weekly mentor meetings

School Without Borders
City-wide

$100,000 over two years to improve youth development in TCHC by developing a youth leadership training. Using a ‘train-the-trainer’ approach, it will create spaces where youth strengthen their skills and access resources. The first year will focus on developing the curriculum with the involvement of nine youth who will participate in the programming and help refine the curriculum for the second year participants.

The expected results are:
• 9 youth involved in the development and design of the project 

• Young Leaders curriculum designed and implemented

• 25 youth involved in second year Young Leaders programming

Youth In Power (YIP)
City-wide

$25,000 over one year to connect and support youth from diverse backgrounds living in TCHC communities. The ‘Identify and Impact’ project will work with YIP members to explore their own identities and discuss how they can have a greater impact in their own lives and communities. The project will address: identity and culture, developing transferable skills and articulating, measuring and celebrating personal and community impact. School Without Borders will act as its financial trustee.

The expected results are:
• YIP report on youth identity produced

• 10 workshops delivered on identity

• Development of resources and workshops for peer youth training

• Revised organizational structure and mandate of YIP

Horn of Africa Parents’ Association
CHU 4 – East Scarborough

$43,000 over two years to build the capacity of parents who live in Orton Park and East Scarborough to advocate for their children within the school system. Workshops will focus on understanding the school system, current education research, special education, safe school policy, provincial testing and parent councils. This project is in partnership with the Children's Aid Society and the Toronto District School Board.

The expected results include:
• Weekly workshops and guest speakers

• 60 parents trained

• Community resource guide developed  

Empowered Residents Partnership-York West Seniors Citizens Centre 
CHU 6 – Weston Road

$50,000 over two years to work in partnership to engage residents living at 1901 Weston Rd. in community development activities. The project will build the tenant capacity through leadership training, develop a community garden that will engage tenants and youth and provide nutrition workshops and communal eating for partners and tenants to work together.

The expected results include:
• Developed capacity of tenants involved in the Empowered Residents Partnership

• Coordination schedule developed for the 2nd floor recreation room 

• Establishment of a community garden and a community kitchen

Downtown Grapevine 
CHU 10

$52,000 over two years to strengthen relationships among TCHC tenants, local neighbours and businesses, provide economic opportunities through the support of the Grapevine newspaper and support the development of a youth section in the newspaper.

The expected results include:
• 12 publications per year of at least an eight-page paper

• More comprehensive youth section developed

• Youth outreach worker hired

Bishop Tutu Gardening Committee
CHU 11- St. Lawrence

$18,205 over two years to expand the community garden by building permanent garden boxes and establishing an organic community food garden. Tenants will be involved in the planning, design and development of the gardens. FoodShare and Harbourfront Community Centre will provide technical support. Harbourfront Community Centre will act as the trustee.

The expected results include:
• 2 Community garden established

• Greenhoused area built for seedlings

• Monthly workshops 

• 30 tenants involved in community gardening
