Statement from Eugene E. Jones, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, regarding incident on Danzig Street
July 17, 2012
I am deeply saddened by the shocking acts of gun violence on Danzig Street last night. On behalf of Toronto Community Housing, my thoughts are with the families and friends of the two young people who lost their lives, and with all those impacted by this senseless tragedy. This situation brings home how the violence of a few can affect us all, impacting an entire neighbourhood and the city beyond.
Toronto Community Housing is cooperating with Toronto Police and with the City of Toronto's Community Crisis Response Program. We are also taking immediate steps to support residents during this difficult time. We are encouraging anyone with information about the event to contact Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS) and I am visiting the neighbourhood today to support residents impacted by this tragedy.
I take the safety of our communities very seriously, and will ensure that Toronto Community Housing continues to work with the police and our community partners to do what we can to make our communities safe.
Eugene E. Jones will be on scene at Danzig Street around 10 a.m. this morning.
