January 22, 2008

The "Best Joint Labour and Management Campaign Award" is presented to one organization in the public sector and one organization in the private sector. It is awarded to a "unionized organization that exemplifies collaboration and team work between the labour and management groups in running their campaign."

Toronto Community Housing was nominated in this category along with the TTC and the Government of Canada. Campaign Chair and VP of Human Resources Harold Ball was also nominated in the category of Best Employee Campaign Chair and CEO Derek Ballantyne was nominated in the category of Best Leadership Chair.

Harold Ball and Vito Carelli, Superintendent, Community Housing Unit 18 accepted the award.

"I felt great pride and joy when I was asked to accept the Spirit Award on behalf of Toronto Community Housing and CUPE 416," said Vito. "By participating in the United Way Campaign, Toronto Community Housing brings a smile, joy and happiness to people in need."

Toronto Community Housing's 2007 campaign raised $306,316.32 - an increase of over $30,000 from the 2006 campaign and nearly $50,000 over the target that was set at the campaign's start.

The United Way Spirit Awards celebrate the individuals and organizations whose outstanding generosity and support make the dreams of building better neighbourhoods and improving lives a reality.
