Leslie Nymark Revitalization
Leslie Nymark is a 7-acre Toronto Community Housing neighbourhood on Leslie Street north of Sheppard Avenue East, a short walk from the TTC’s Leslie subway station.
The revitalization of Leslie Nymark launched in the fall of 2010. Since then, tenants have worked closely with Toronto Community Housing and its development partner, Tridel, to create a vision to transform their community. Surveys were conducted and workshops were held to share information and get input from residents. Together tenants, Toronto Community Housing and Tridel developed eight key principles that helped guide the creation of a plan. The exciting plan that resulted from this engagement will replace the rental housing with new, energy-efficient units and to create new for-sale market housing, meeting spaces, local employment opportunities and green spaces.
Recent developments
In December 2011, Toronto Community Housing and Tridel submitted a development application to the City of Toronto. A revised plan was submitted in August 2012 to address issues raised by the City of Toronto. Toronto Community Housing, Tridel and the City of Toronto are currently working through the development approvals process. After planning approvals have been received, planning for the relocation of existing residents and construction will begin.
As with any Toronto Community Housing revitalization, all rent-geared-to-income households living in Leslie Nymark with a lease in good standing when construction begins will have the right to a new unit that is right for their family size. Before any moving happens Toronto Community Housing will host relocation workshops and connect with tenant households about the relocation process and what to expect.
