501 Adelaide Street East

Toronto Community Housing acquired this infill development site in late 2006. The property had been zoned for a condominium development and Toronto Community Housing worked within the framework of the earlier zoning to develop a building suited for families with children.

The new building has 180 suites, some with two floors and with as many as five bedrooms. One hundred and fifty-six of the units are targeted for Regent Park replacement, while the remaining 24 are affordable rental. The building features state-of-the art environmental technologies, including individual heat recovery ventilation units, high efficiency boilers and an intensive green roof.

Construction began in July 2007 and was completed in early 2009.
