Lawrence Heights Revitalization
Lawrence Heights is a Toronto Community Housing neighbourhood located between the Lawrence West and Yorkdale subway stations along both sides of the Allen Expressway.
Planning for the revitalization of Lawrence Heights started in June 2008. The plan for revitalizing Lawrence Heights reflects years of input gathered from residents, community animators, community and neighbourhood organizations, and the City of Toronto. This plan was approved as part of the Lawrence-Allen Secondary Plan by City Council in November 2011.
Recent Developments
On November 27, 2012, Toronto City Council unanimously approved the phase one by-law amendments, an important step for the Lawrence Heights revitalization. North York Community Council had approved the amendments on November 6, 2012.
On September 4, 2012 Toronto Community Housing released the first stage of the public procurement process to seek a developer partner for the first phase of the Lawrence Heights revitalization. Phase one is a 25.6 acre parcel of land adjacent to the Yorkdale Subway Station in North York, and consists of 665 market condominium apartment units and 163 market freehold townhouses, as well as 233 Toronto Community Housing rental units. The zoning envelope includes 45,750 square feet of commercial space on Ranee Avenue.

On November 30, 2011, Toronto City Council strongly endorsed the Lawrence-Allen Secondary Plan. This is a legal document that includes planning policies to allow revitalization. Council approval of the Secondary Plan allows Toronto Community Housing to move forward with revitalization.
The Secondary Plan takes the Lawrence-Allen revitalization vision that was endorsed by City Council in July 2010 and turns it into a set of policies that will guide revitalization over the next 20 years.
