Allenbury Gardens is a Toronto Community Housing neighbourhood near Sheppard Avenue East and the Don Valley Parkway. It is near Fairview Mall and the Don Mills subway station.

Since November 2010, Allenbury Gardens residents have been working with Toronto Community Housing and our development partner FRAM Building Group to shape a vision and plan for the future. They have developed a set of principles to guide the revitalization plan.

We now have an exciting plan to improve and transform Allenbury Gardens with new, energy-efficient rental housing and new market housing. There will be local employment opportunities for residents available through an agreement with FRAM. Residents will also get new meeting spaces, and new parks and green spaces will be created for the whole community to enjoy.

Recent developments

The development application for Allenbury Gardens was approved by Toronto City Council on March 21, 2013. A community meeting will be held on April 9, 2013 to update residents on the plan.

Relocation and construction may begin in summer 2014 for Phase 1 residents, and construction will follow.

As with any Toronto Community Housing revitalization project, residents who are living in the community when construction begins will have the right to live in the community when revitalization is complete. Click here for more information on what residents can expect during revitalization.

Getting residents involved

Resident meetings and workshops were held throughout the revitalization planning process including:

• community meetings on February 29 and September 19, 2012
• resident consultation meetings with Allenbury Garden residents and the surrounding neighbourhood in July and September 2012

About the approval process

The approval process for the revitalization plan involved several stages:

• In October 2011, Toronto Community Housing and FRAM Building Group submitted a planning application to the City of Toronto to get approval for the revitalization plan.
• A re-submission of the planning application was made to the City of Toronto in September 2012.
• The development application was approved by North York Community Council on February 26, 2013.
• The plan was approved by Toronto City Council on March 21, 2013.
