Building a Plan in Alexandra Park
Starting in August 2009, Toronto Community Housing staff and a team of consultants led by Urban Strategies Inc began working with Alexandra Park residents to have a conversation about their community and what revitalization could mean for them. Alexandra Park includes the Atkinson Co-op and the buildings at 20 Vanauley and 91 Augusta. As part of the Housing Works strategy, the Alexandra Park community is one Toronto Community Housing is looking at as a candidate for revitalization.

Preparing for revitalization: planning in 2008
A lot of important work happened in the Alexandra Park community in 2008. The Community Social Planning Council of Toronto (now Social Planning Toronto) and tenant animators worked together to conduct a survey to learn more about residents' thoughts about the community. In December 2008, they presented a document that shared what they heard.
Revitalization planning in 2009 and 2010
The revitalization consultation that started summer 2009 is a continuation of this earlier process and provides an opportunity for residents, community partners and staff to work together to identify what is great about the community and to see what things could be changed or improved.
Toronto Community Housing hired a consulting team, led by Urban Strategies Inc, to work with tenants, co-op members and staff to see how we might make these things happen. At the end of the process, we'll have a picture of what physical changes could support these ideas and we'll look at how we would pay for these possible changes.
Every community is different
When we talk about revitalization at Toronto Community Housing, we think about Regent Park or Don Mount Court or Lawrence Heights. What's important to remember is that, just as every community is unique, the revitalization process and outcome will be different in every community. Alexandra Park's revitalization plan will not look like any other plan. It will be created from scratch by all the people who participate in the process.
