Haiti Relief

Message from Keiko Nakamura

On January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake. We at Toronto Community Housing are saddened by the immense loss and tragedy. According to the United Nations there are an estimated three million people in Haiti in need of aid. While it is not possible for us to be there on the ground helping, we can show our support by donating to organizations that specialize in disaster relief.

Toronto Community Housing has decided to support two organizations through staff donations who are working to rebuild Haiti: UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity Canada.

UNICEF Habitat for Humanity

UNICEF

UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) is the world’s leading advocate for children, helping to build a world where the rights of every child are realized. Unique among world organizations and among those working with the young, UNICEF has the global authority to influence decision-makers and the grassroots partnerships to turn innovative, life-saving ideas into reality.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity Canada is a national, non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The mission of the organization is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

As youth and access to affordable housing are important in our work at Toronto Community Housing, we are delighted to support these two organizations working in the international arena of community development.
