Toronto Community Housing is changing to serve you better
Over the last five years, Toronto Community Housing has become one of Canada's leading social housing providers. We have created healthier communities. We are improving the housing, making communities safer and ensuring that families and individuals have access to opportunities and services. Tenants have a voice in the decisions that affect them and we have positive relationships with the agencies that provide services in our communities.
After five years of success we took a look at where we are at and the challenges we face. We have looked at how we can invest more resources in building repairs, community revitalization and better service for tenants. To do this, we are making changes to the ways we are organized and the way we work. We will be adding more front line staff while reducing the number of managers.
Organizational Changes
- Toronto Community Housing's 27 Community Housing Units are being replaced with 13 Operating Units:
- Eleven of the units will be focused on family and mixed housing and grouped geographically into three areas - West, Central and East.
- Two units, one for the east side of the city and one for the west, will be exclusively focused on our seniors mandated buildings and our single family homes. The creation of a Seniors Housing Unit and a new operational model for single family homes is a response to the different needs associated with these types of housing.
- New Community Health Managers will focus development efforts at the building level.
- New Housing Supervisors will improve the state of repair at our buildings and improve quality of life for tenants.
- There will be at least one superintendent assigned to every building and there will be a daily presence of Toronto Community Housing staff in all buildings and developments.
- A new Customer Service Representative position is being created in our community offices to ensure that tenants receive prompt, courteous service.
Operating Unit Directors and Managers are now in place in their new Operating Units. For the time being, the organizational changes have little impact on tenants and their day-to-day dealings with Toronto Community Housing. Tenants will have the same local community housing office, deal with the same staff they deal with now, pay rent the same way and be covered by all the same policies that are in place now.
What is next
Over the upcoming summer and fall, Toronto Community Housing will be moving to our new operating structure.
- Consultations with tenants on the Tenant Participation System can fit with the new structure will take place.
- New Operating Unit offices and staff will be put in place - the exact timing of the moves, new staff positions and changes to the way tenants deal with Toronto Community Housing will be determined over the summer.
Keeping you informed
Staff and tenants have Toronto Community Housing's commitment that we will keep them informed every step of the way.
