Toronto Community Housing is making a meaningful investment to improve the look and feel of our communities throughout the city.  The Curb Appeal project, a $1 million annual fund, will help create safe and healthy communities by building pride for those who live, work and visit our neighbourhoods.

A safe and healthy community involves engaged residents.  In addition to aesthetic appeal, beautifying our communities – through painting, landscaping, community gardens, benches and walkways – gives residents desirable places to meet and build their community. It creates a more vibrant and inviting landscape that helps connect residents with the wider community.

In 2009, the Curb Appeal project was piloted in nine communities. At each site, tenants were consulted to find out what elements would most improve their community.

The program also generated meaningful employment opportunities for six tenants who helped implement the changes.  An additional 10 youth were hired to capture the Curb Appeal process through photographs and interviews.
