The WSIB Claims Consultant is responsible for monitoring Workplace Safety and Insurance claims (WSIB) under Schedule 1, Schedule 2 and CAD 7. The successful candidate will ensure decisions are appropriate and in compliance with WSIB policies and guidelines, benefit entitlements, Early Safe Return to Work and permanent impairment.

Responsibilities:

 
 
• Ensures Accident Investigation Reports are complete and provides optimum information to be relayed on WSIB Form 7 in accordance with legislative requirements

• Issues Form 9 and Recurrence 7 for return to work and recurrence cases

• Monitors and follow up WSIB adjudication process with internal and external parties

• Monitors statements to ensure "worker criteria" is met in accordance with WSIB legislation

• Ensures WSIB is notified of any changes in employment status

• Notifies Payroll personnel of any delays or changes of employee's claims

• Provides monthly lost time reports to Payroll and Benefits and Rehabilitation/Ergonomics Consultant

• Provides WSIB compliance advice to Human Resources and Labour Relations and other units/divisions in assisting in complex and difficult cases

• Manages and trains staff on the Quatro Safety System and provides training on WSIB

• Provides consultation on NEER, CAD 7, workwell, revenue and return to work schedule 1 compliances

• Represents the Corporation on Industry Committees and Consultations as required

• Identifies needs and co-ordinates arrangements for independent medicals, functional abilities examinations, mediations and ergonomic assessments

• Provides program support and counseling and acts as a resource to employees, supervisors, managers and the organization throughout the disability period

• Attends WSIB ergonomic, mediation and return to work meetings

• Provides assistance and conducts return to work plans and programs where necessary

• Liaises with Rehabilitation/Ergonomics Consultant on WSIB return to work issues

• Provides quarterly NEER and monthly statistical reports

• Provides statistical and cost outline on strategic and complex cases for case management

• Provides file summaries to the Labour Relations and Legal Services Units for litigation cases

• Reviews monthly WSIB statements to verify appropriate benefits paid

• Writes objection letters for reconsideration requests at the claims adjudication level

• Ensures adjudication decisions are communicated in writing and that Appeal issues are acknowledged

• Researches and coordinates files for WSIB appeals and WSIA tribunals

• Represents the Corporation at Appeals and WSIA mediations and tribunals (oral hearings or written submissions)

 


Qualifications:

 


• Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience

• Post-secondary education in Disability Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources or other related field

• Extensive working knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and WSIB Operational Policies, with the ability to research and apply them to individual cases

• Familiarity with the statues relevant to and affecting WSIB including: Ontario Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Canada Pension Act and Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

• Experience applying legal and technical terminology regarding WSIB entitlement criteria, legislative obligations and policy interpretations

• Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and disability/claims management software

• Strong ability to assess cases and make recommendations to Manager, Health, Safety and Wellness, Rehabilitation/Ergonomics Consultant and management staff regarding cost, probability and potential case outcomes

• Ability to assess and make recommendations in reference to Mediations, Appeals and Tribunals

• Knowledge of Human Rights, Benefits, Employment and Labour Relations as it related to the probable outcomes of complex rehabilitation cases

• Experience working within a unionized setting and with a diverse client group

• Experience working in a large corporate environment would be considered an asset

• Expert communication and interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of staff, managers, bargaining agent representatives and external stakeholders

• Highly-developed analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
