Giorgio been a local City Councillor since 1995 and is the representative for Ward 7-York West. He has been an elected official for 17 years, and from 1990-1995 he was the MPP for Yorkview. While sitting as North York Ward One's Councillor, Giorgio chaired the mayor's Advisory Committee on Substance Abuse Prevention, the North York City Hall Building Services Committee and the Task Force Against the Privatization of Alcohol Sales.

As a councillor in the City of Toronto and North York, he has sat on and chaired numerous city committees, boards and commissions. He has provided his expertise as Chair to the North York Community Council and the Toronto Zoo Board of Management, along with membership on the Boards of the Toronto Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Toronto, and groups such as Olympic Task Force and the Don Watershed Regeneration Council.

Giorgio is a member of the Etobicoke York Community Council, a Director of Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee.
