    What are Tenant Action Funds?

Tenants and tenant groups can apply for Tenant Action Funds to address local priorities. All Tenant Action Funds applications will be reviewed and approved by Interim Funding Tables.

As part of the transition to the new Tenant Engagement System, TCHC has established Interim Funding Tables, made up of representatives from each directorate – east, central, seniors and west; to help distribute Tenant Councils and Use of Space funds to tenants or tenant groups who need resources for community initiatives. Members of the Interim Funding Tables are not allowed to submit funding requests for initiatives in their community, but members of their community can apply for the Tenant Action Funds. All applicants must balance previously allocated funds before seeking additional resources. Any tenant found to be misappropriating funds will be ineligible to apply for future resources.

Once you submit your application form, it will be reviewed by the Tenant Action Funds Tables  in your directorate and they will determine whether or not funding will be allocated. Tenants will receive a letter with the status of their application within two weeks after the review meeting date. If your application is approved, your local engagement Community Services Coordinator will contact you to discuss the next steps.

A maximum of $1,000 can be allocated to the project or initiative.

    Tenant Action Fund Tables

Members of the Tenant Action Funds Tables include Toronto Community Housing tenants from across the city. They review tenant funding requests for community projects and initiatives that respond to tenant-identified priorities.

    Participatory Budgeting

TCHC continues to support tenant-led activities, programs, and events that help improve the quality and growth of TCHC communities. In the past, tenants who wanted to access funding for their project or initiative could engage in the Participatory Budgeting (PB) program or apply through the Tenant Action Funds (TAF) program.

Now, we are looking to re-design the Participatory Budgeting program.

    About tenant funding programs

When the Participatory Budgeting program was first introduced, it designated funding for tenant-involved decision-making in capital projects at TCHC. Over time, the program evolved to give tenants the opportunity to make decisions about purchasing non-capital items (like furniture, gardening supplies, plants, exercise equipment, and more) for common area spaces in their buildings. This program is currently on hold.

    How you can help

We recognize the impact the Participatory Budgeting program has had in communities in the past. Before moving forward with any program changes, we want to work with you to make sure the new funding structure serves your needs.

Please fill out the Participatory Budgeting survey to give your feedback on the Participatory Budgeting program. It should take you about 10 minutes to complete.

The Participatory Budgeting survey closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024

Your feedback is important in shaping the future of the Participatory Budgeting program and helping create a program that is meaningful, impactful, and reflective of the diverse voices in our communities.

Your responses will help us understand your:

    • historical awareness of the program
    • thoughts on tenant funding priorities,
    • the funding cycle, eligibility, allocation, and more.
